At heart the YMCA is about enabling healthier, happier communities. We like to help get people together, being active and healthy, in many, many ways. Local YMCAs across Australia provide a range of community initiatives to respond directly to their local community needs.
For example, the YMCA Bridge Project in Victoria is an innovative program in Victoria that connects young people leaving youth justice centres with employment and mentoring on their release.
YMCA Breakfast Clubs – hosted by Bendigo, Ballarat and Brisbane YMCAs, school children in disadvantaged communities get their days off to a healthy start, thanks to local YMCA Breakfast clubs, run by volunteers.
Several YMCAs also work with Indigenous communities across Australia running a range of programs in partnership with their local Indigenous communities, responding to their specific needs.
Contact your local YMCA to find out more about what it offers to your local community, and find out how you can get involved.
