Reconciliation must be in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians

May 26, 2021 Equality

The Y acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and extend respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

“A just world” is a principle that the Y has always upheld over the course our history, and reconciliation is such an important part of this.

Reconciliation Australia week starts tomorrow (27 May- 3 June) and the theme for 2021 is: More than a word – reconciliation takes action which highlights that we need braver and more impactful action. “Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation.

At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures,” – Reconciliation Australia. We know the voice of our young people is so important in this conversation and in building a just world.
