the Y
At the Y, we provide education and care to over 56,000 children nationally, supported by around 4,000 dedicated staff. We know firsthand that the Productivity Commission got it right when they found that “children experiencing disadvantage or vulnerability stand to benefit most from attending high-quality Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) services. But in the current system, they are also most likely to be missing out.”
This is why we have a vision for universal access to ECEC services. By 2030, all Australian children aged 5 years and younger should be able to access ECEC services, and more children and families should have access to out-of-school-hours care.
Yesterday’s announcement by the Labor Government is an important step towards our vision. With the next Federal election fast approaching, we look forward to further announcements from both the Government and the Opposition on this critical policy area.
