Floods updates – the Y in NSW & SE Qld

March 8, 2022 The Y in Australia

Our thoughts are with both Y NSW and Y Brisbane, and all of our Y staff, communities and young people affected by the current floods in NSW and South East Queensland.

We acknowledge that so many of our staff and communities are affected during this challenging time. Please stay safe and we hope you, your family and teams are okay.

New South Wales:
Y NSW is closely managing its sites across the Recreation, Camping and Children’s Services areas of the organisation. Various sites have had to close and there will be immediate impacts to some properties, however the NSW team is so grateful that our most important assets – our people – are all safe and well.

There have been both direct and indirect issues arising from the floods and severe weather across New South Wales, on the north coast, in the northwest and west of Sydney. Y team members in New South Wales have been encouraged to reach out to each other, to utilise the organisation’s EAP service and apply for the Y Hardship Fund in the event that support is required.

South East Queensland:
In South East Queensland, Y Brisbane continues to support staff members whose homes or belongings have been damaged or destroyed with their Y-Army out helping with clean up efforts and restoration of properties. We’re thankful that none of our SE Queensland Y sites (to date) have been submerged, but some have water penetration that has caused damage.
